1. PLAN PATTERN
In your sketchbook, plan a variety of designs for the heart-shaped metal embossing. Designs should vary in shape, pattern, and size. Measure sketches to be less than 4x4.
2. EMBOSS HEART
To transfer design to metal, use tracing paper to copy the design from your sketchbook. Tape tracing to metal and use wood tools to emboss. Apply pressure to both sides of the metal to create visible dimension.
3. CHOOSE PAPER
After choosing paper for collaging element, identify colors you want to use in order to create a cohesive color scheme. Think of what colors will compliment and contrast with your paper. Document this step .
4. PAINT CANVAS
Use acrylic paints to cover the canvas and its edges. The color should correspond to your color scheme. Only a tiny amount of paint is needed cover the canvas.
5. PATINA EMBOSSING
Use a sponge brush to apply ink over metal. Wait for a few minutes for it to dry. Then, use a soft paper towel to buff the ink off of the metal. Ink can be reapplied as needed.
6. ADD PAPER
& PAINT
Use paper thoughtfully to add a collaging element to your piece. Attach by applying Elmer's glue to the back of your paper with a paint brush and placing it on your canvas.
7. ATTACH HEART
Use the E6000 glue and an applicator and fix the metal heart to your canvas, on top of the collaged paper.
8. ADD DETAIL
Go in with detailed touches to finish piece. Use colored pencils, acrylic paint and paint pens to complete the artwork.
